Who We Are

Tom Satoshi Lambert

Tom Lambert is a political and development analyst who has a particular focus on how local and international development organizations are operating across Myanmar. Experience working on Myanmar for Chatham House in London and the European Union in Yangon has given him a broad local network of Myanmar political actors, civil society organizations, and local researchers, enabling him to gather up to date and granular information down to the village level.

His core strength is his analytical capability to examine micro-level social changes in the context of overarching political and economic trends in Myanmar. Tom speaks intermediate Burmese and Japanese, leads the Myanmar Governance Network and holds degrees from Warwick University.

Samuel James Pursch

Samuel Pursch is an experienced political risk consultant and analyst. Prior to moving to Myanmar and founding Andaman Research & Advisory, he was based in London as an analyst and consultant focused on political risk, strategic planning and business intelligence.

He specializes in political economy approaches and using interest-identification analysis to assess opportunities, define risk, and determine feasibility. He has particular experience examining risks associated with natural resources, especially hydrocarbons and agricultural products. Samuel has a deep knowledge of how rural Myanmar contexts are evolving, stemming from his work on a long-running World Bank research project. Sam holds degrees from The George Washington University and King’s College London.
